The Opinion Of A Former pro

| I have owned Hohner, Hering, and Huang Harmonicas. The Suzuki is far better than any of those. Great mouthpiece and super smooth slide action |
Fantastic instrument for the money

| Too bad it arrived in a box that was crushed beyond recognition. I could elicit no meaningful response from the online store but Suzuki stepped up to the plate and replaced it - no questions asked. The new one arrived in one piece directly from Suzuki USA in San Diego and I'm a happy camper now. |
SCX-64 Beware

Buy with caution and only well ahead of the time you need this instrument.
They ship promptly and appear in pristine looking condition...However many people (obviously me included) have many issues with the upper registers. Particularly with playability on the upper two holes and tuning in general from 8 draw and up.
Also the unit is not sealed meaning shipper may have played them (GROSS) mine smelled like ass on the low end upon arrival. A potential fine instrument, but buy with caution and be prepared for Susuki to tell you that you will have to wait up to a month for repair - replacement - shipping. (UNREAL)
IMHO Susuki should take the time to tune and gap these correctly to avoid reputation damage as well as blister or clamshell packaging for obvious sanitary reasons.
It is also worth mentioning that there is noticeable buzzing on the lower two holes (SCX-64) as the long low reeds smack the windsavers, although this may just be the nature of the beast... so play these holes VERY softly while allowing some air through your nose or use a very soft touch of lip to harp allowing some air to ascape above-below the harp.
Bottom line buy this unit if you are patient enough to wait the month for Susuki to do what they should do with all of these and you may well end up with a very fine harp indeed for the money. |
